Gemini and Apex Turn Brokerage Plumbing Into the Next Venue Contest

The Signal

Gemini Titan’s proposed alliance with Apex Fintech Solutions would make it the exclusive regulated venue for crypto event contracts distributed through Apex’s futures commission merchant. Brokerages would rely on Gemini for execution and clearing rather than establish separate venue connections, according to The Block. The arrangement remains a letter of intent, with final terms and a rollout still pending.

Apex already distributes Kalshi contracts through an API launched earlier this month. Clear Street’s entry as the first FCM offering Kalshi access adds another institutional route, turning brokerage infrastructure into the prediction-market industry’s newest competitive layer.

The Mechanism

  • Gemini is buying distribution, not asking customers to find a new destination. Apex-connected brokerages could place event contracts inside existing investing interfaces, leaving Gemini to supply the regulated venue, execution and clearing underneath.
  • The exclusivity is narrow but commercially valuable. It covers crypto event contracts routed through Apex’s FCM. Sports, economic and financial contracts could be added on a non-exclusive basis, leaving room for Apex to maintain a multi-venue shelf.
  • Kalshi now faces an internal category split at Apex. Its earlier API integration established the initial prediction-market offering, but a finalized Gemini agreement would reserve Apex’s crypto-contract flow for Gemini Titan. Venue competition moves from acquiring retail users directly to winning product categories inside brokerage middleware.
  • Apex can reduce the fixed cost of entering prediction markets. A brokerage no longer needs to negotiate separate execution and clearing arrangements for every venue. That should increase the number of distributors capable of listing event contracts, though individual firms still need product approvals, disclosures and state-level eligibility controls.
  • Clear Street creates a competing institutional channel. Its direct Kalshi access gives brokers and professional firms an alternative to Apex’s bundled model. FCMs can now compete on venue selection, APIs, collateral management, reporting and geographic filtering.
  • Crypto contracts offer Gemini a focused entry point. They fit its existing customer base and market expertise while avoiding some of the immediate state-gambling exposure attached to sports contracts. The company still must prove that its contracts can attract enough two-sided liquidity to justify brokerage placement.

The Landscape

Market Position: Apex is assembling a venue-neutral distribution layer with category-specific suppliers: Kalshi across its existing API and, if final terms are signed, Gemini Titan exclusively for crypto event contracts. Clear Street is pursuing the same access opportunity from the FCM side. Internationally, Wealthsimple has already used Kalshi infrastructure to bring event contracts to a potential base of roughly four million Canadian clients, according to Wealth Professional. Distribution is broadening faster than the number of venues with demonstrated liquidity.

Regulatory Environment: The Ninth Circuit’s Nevada decision weakened Kalshi’s argument that CFTC oversight categorically blocks state regulation of sports contracts; the court found that Kalshi had not shown federal preemption, CoinDesk reports. Brokerage distributors may therefore need contract-level and state-level access rules even when the underlying venue is federally regulated. Crypto, economic and financial contracts could become more attractive distribution categories while litigation over sports markets continues.

Key Data

  • 11 days: Time between Apex’s August 13 Kalshi API launch and its August 24 letter of intent with Gemini.
  • One exclusive category: Gemini Titan would control crypto event contracts routed through Apex’s FCM; other contemplated categories remain non-exclusive.
  • Nearly $24 billion: Reported combined monthly volume across Kalshi and Polymarket by April, up from below $5 billion in September 2025—an increase of more than 4.8 times, according to eGamers’ summary of the market data.
  • $1.12 billion: Private-equity capital Kalshi reported raising since April, based on its latest Form D covered by The Block.
  • Two emerging FCM routes: Apex’s proposed Gemini/Kalshi shelf and Clear Street’s Kalshi access now give prediction-market venues multiple paths into conventional brokerage distribution.

What’s Next

The next catalyst is a definitive Gemini-Apex agreement specifying launch timing, participating brokerages, eligible jurisdictions and the first crypto contracts. Adoption will depend on which Apex clients activate the product and whether Gemini can seed competitive spreads and depth; without those disclosures, the deal expands potential access rather than measurable trading activity.
